The new album is released on 16th June, and is preceded by a single ‘We Are The People’ one week earlier. This is the first studio album since ‘Pushing The Senses, and follows 2006’s ‘The Singles’ a self explanatory compilation which sold over half a million copies. It spanned the band’s career to date and two new tracks (‘Lost & Found’ and ‘Save Us’) released as singles from it charted high and hinted at the powerful direction the band were moving in.
Frontman Grant Nicholas, joined by Taka Hirose and drummer Mark Richardson to complete Feeder, started writing the new record immediately after touring ‘The Singles’ album (breaking only to play some very special London dates in November 06 for the charity War Child which whom the band have a longstanding relationship). After a relentless cycle of touring and recording, and buoyed by the success of ‘The Singles’, the band decided to take their time with this album. ‘Silent Cry’ emerged after over a year, the most relaxed (and longest) recording session the band had enjoyed. Self produced, it bears all the hallmarks of a classic Feeder album with soaring anthemic tracks and intricate melodies but as ever, rooted by classic rock and pop hooks.
The first offering from the new sessions was ‘Miss You’ a free download track which the band sneaked out on their website in March of this year. Quickly pounced on by their fans it was downloaded over 8000 times in the first day and various radio stations (including XFM) immediately added it to their playlists. Also announced direct from the band through their website were warm-up shows for May 08 to preview the new album – the smallest venues the band have played in years - which of course sold out immediately. Unsigned bands are being invited to support them on these dates, a competition is running through 7 Digital Indiestore (http://indiestore.7digital.com/feeder) – where they will be judged by the band and a different act will be selected for each night. A full UK tour for ‘Silent Cry’ will be announced for later this year soon, and they will appear at several festivals over the summer.
