The band formed in 2006 when Joe, then juggling drumming duties with The Pipettes, decided he needed an outlet for the effervescent pop symphonies that he had been writing. Luckily he didn't have to look far - "I realised I knew the three best guitarists in the country and managed to get one of them to play bass". Together with drummer James Craig, Panda (bass), Tom Dougall (guitar), Dom O'Dare (guitar) joined Joe in nearly a year of intensive writing and rehearsal before playing their first show early in 2007. After only a handful more gigs the buzz on London's music scene was deafening - a truly special band had arrived.
'Where Do You Go?' encapsulates all that is wonderful about Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong within its three perfectly formed minutes. Searing guitars, teenage drama, and an irrepressible chorus all add up to make a song that simultaneously embraces the last 50 years of pop music whilst grinding it under its heel.
Recorded over the last three months in a north London studio, the band's debut is the perfect distillation of the boys inspired blend of garage rock, classic pop and doo-wop. Featuring the singles 'Lucio Starts Fires', 'Lonely Buoy' and 'Where Do You Go?', as well as live favourites 'Baby', 'Teenagers', and 'Brooklyn', it is set to be one of 2008's most impressive debuts. Scheduled for an August release, we expect to be able to tell you and play you more very soon. But for now we're happy to let 'Where Do You Go?' do the talking....
